What is PNM Closet?

PNM Closet is a Panhellenic initiative created to make sorority recruitment more accessible, affordable, and welcoming for Potential New Members (PNMs). The closet provides gently worn recruitment attire including dresses, blouses, dress pants, skirts, and other recruitment-appropriate clothing at a low cost to students participating in recruitment.

Every item is priced at $5 or less, and all proceeds benefit Circle of Sisterhood, our Panhellenic philanthropy.

More than just a clothing resource, PNM Closet represents the values of sisterhood, support, and community. It is designed to help every PNM feel confident and prepared during recruitment, regardless of financial situation or access to transportation.

How It Works

1. Members Donate

Active sorority members donate gently worn recruitment clothing and accessories that are still in great condition.

2. Clothing is Organized

Items are sorted by size, style, and recruitment round to help PNMs easily find what they need.

3. PNMs Shop the Closet

Potential New Members can browse and purchase items at affordable prices before or during recruitment week.

4. Proceeds Give Back

All proceeds directly support Circle of Sisterhood, allowing the initiative to serve both the Panhellenic community and a greater philanthropic purpose.

Who Can Use PNM Closet?

PNM Closet is open to all Potential New Members participating in Panhellenic recruitment.

The initiative was especially created with first-year students in mind. Many freshmen:

  • Live on campus without easy transportation

  • Have limited access to off-campus shopping

  • May not have a large recruitment wardrobe prepared

  • Are navigating the financial pressures that can come with recruitment

PNM Closet helps remove some of those barriers so every PNM can feel comfortable, confident, and included.

The Story Behind PNM Closet

Nearly half of college students have limited access to a vehicle. At Ball State University, first-year students are required to live on campus, and parking can be expensive and located far from residence halls. For many freshmen, even getting to their own car can require a long walk or extra planning.

At the same time, an estimated 75–90% of women participating in Panhellenic recruitment are first-year students. Recruitment can already feel overwhelming, and finding multiple outfits for the week can add additional stress financially, logistically, and emotionally.

PNM Closet was created to help solve that problem in a meaningful way.

The goal was simple: make recruitment feel more welcoming and less stressful by creating an accessible clothing resource built on generosity and sisterhood. Through donated clothing from active members, PNMs are able to find affordable attire while also seeing firsthand what Panhellenic community looks like in action.

Every donation remains anonymous, but each item represents women supporting women. Whether someone needs one outfit or an entire week of recruitment attire, PNM Closet exists to remind PNMs that they already have a community cheering them on.

Our Mission

PNM Closet exists to:

  • Promote accessibility within recruitment

  • Reduce financial stress for PNMs

  • Encourage sustainability through clothing reuse

  • Support Circle of Sisterhood through fundraising

  • Foster a culture of generosity, inclusion, and sisterhood

Recruitment should feel exciting, empowering, and welcoming for every woman — and PNM Closet is one small way we hope to make that happen.
